MTB + Walnut Canyon

Bikepacking test ride #2 dealt with the 2L water jug and some freeze dried food. Everything did pretty well, and I’m now reducing the kit more.

There’s a singletrack trail along the north side of the canyon. I went east from Fisher Point. This test gave me the side benefit of finally riding this trail to the end.

The trail eventually went down into a smaller canyon. I had to HAB (Hike A Bike) for half the other side.

My target was a tourist-inaccessible “cliff dwelling” listed on the map.

The signs didn’t prohibit bikes...

I got to the ridge and “cooked” some Mountain House food. Never tried it before. This was “chicken and rice,” in an apparently 1 to 25 ratio.

The cliff dwellings were on the north side so I couldn’t see them. Time for a trip to the south side...

I ended up going to the visitor center as well, to sit for a bit and take another gander over the edge. They have a paved path with 1 trillion stairs, if you visit.

I poked around trying to get home on singletrack. Ended up backtracking a few miles and getting slightly lost. After 26 miles I got home and thought I got a great leg tan.
